Segment 8 – Criminal responsibility and Intersectionality

This segment was left to explore issues that emerge from discussions.

In Spring 2017 the topic chosen was criminal responsibility.  See slides presentation class 8 (see also materials currently in segment 4 on liberty)

Please consult these materials for further exploration of an inclusive approach to moral and legal accountability for wrongdoing:

  • Questions to consider:

Is responsibility linked to rights?

What are the barriers to people with psychosocial disabilities being treated fairly in the criminal justice system?

Is that system unfair to most people?  What else works that way?  How can we change everything all at once?

**

In Fall 2017 the topic was Intersectionality.  Lecture Video recording and slides Intersectionality3 (see also Minkowitz, A Lesbian Feminist in the Movement Against Psychiatric Oppression)

  • Questions to consider:

How does intersectionality work in your life, as a survivor of psychiatric oppression or person with psychosocial disability?

What issues come up for you in this course that have not been explored?  Can you suggest reading materials or questions to consider, for those issues?
